Andaman Marathon 2016; technical issues discussed

The Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry is organising Andaman Marathon with the support of Department of Sports & Youth Affairs on Feb 14, 2016 at Port Blair. A meeting was held under the Chairmanship of the Director (Sports), Shri Ingit Pratap Singh to discuss various issues relating to conduct of the event. In the meeting it was informed that the event will be organised in the following categories viz. half marathon (21 km) for male (open), half marathon (21 km) for female (open), 10 km for men (open), 10 km for women (open), 10 km for senior male (above 50 years), 10 km for senior female (above 40 years) and run for fun 1.5 km (open to all). He informed that the starting point of the race will be at National Memorial Cellular Jail and the finished point at Netaji Stadium, Port Blair. He further informed that to make the event a grand success, the Department will providing infrastructure and technical support. He also appealed one and all to ensure the proper maintenance of main playfield at Netaji Stadium where all the races will finish and also to perform their duties wherever assigned in connection with the aforesaid event.
The Directorate of Sports and Directorate of Education will provide technical support and manpower for works such as time keeping, helping in marking the route and will work in co-ordination Department. During the meeting, the State Transport Service and DSS have been requested for scheduling Bus and boat services on Feb 14 for more participation in the event. Adequate deployment of Police personnel will be made for traffic control and maintaining Law & Order at starting point, finishing point and on route of races, the Director added.
