Workshop on 'Voters Education & Electoral Participation' organized at JNRM

As part of the activities of Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation(SVEEP) sponsored by the Election Department of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, one day Workshop on 'Voters' Education and Electoral Participation' was jointly organized by the Department of Political Science, JNRM and Election Department, Andaman and Nicobar Islands at JNRM, yesterday. The Secretary (Law) Shri Pradeep Banerjee was the chief guest on the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest described the initiative as a positive approach in the conduct of SVEEP activities which will help the students and youth to imbibe democratic values. He also appealed to the students to spread the message of voters' education to the masses as well as in their areas.
The Principal (i/c) Smti Pearl Devdas in her welcome address emphasized the need to be aware of one's political rights so that that they can choose the right persons to various political offices. She observed that this Workshop will surely motivate the youngsters to mould their minds for a bright democracy. Associate Professor and HOD, Political Science & Coordinator of the programme, Dr S.S. Sreekumar while speaking explained the relevance of the workshop which is being held in the light of the two -day Seminar conducted on March 15 &16. Students and other participants got the opportunity to experience presentation of various theoretical and national issues related to voters' education and political participation through the two day Seminar, he said. He remarked that this workshop intended to discuss practical aspects to increase voters' awareness and political participation especially in the context of A&N Islands. The Seminar concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Associate Professor (Political Science) Shri N.Balakrishanan.
The Valedictory function of the workshop was held yesterday in which Sri. M.K. Gupta, Additional District Magistrate, South Andaman was the chief guest who also distributed certificates to the participants and resource persons.
