PM asks officers to move towards digitization, efficient tax administration

New Delhi ,

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has asked tax officers to move towards digitisation and make tax administration better and efficient. Inaugurating the two day annual conference of Senior Tax Administrators, ‘Rajasva Gyan Sangam’ in New Delhi, Shri Modi suggested five pillars of tax administration- revenue, accountability, probity, information and digitization.
The Prime Minister invited suggestions from officers on diverse subjects such as digitization, voluntary tax compliance, facilitation for taxpayers, and increasing the tax base. Shri Modi stressed that while there should be respect for the rule of law among all citizens, people should not fear tax administrators. Citing the example of the "Give it up" initiative for voluntarily giving up gas subsidy, he said the tax base too could be increased significantly, provided the tax administrators can demonstrate the leadership to bring about a change.  Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for Finance Shri Jayant Sinha, Revenue Secretary Shri Hasmukh Adhia, and the Chairmen of CBDT and CBEC were present on the occasion. The two revenue collection arms of the central government, the CBDT and CBEC is jointly holding their annual brainstorming session. The two day conclave starting today will deliberate on a host of issues related to taxpayer services and effective implementation of fiscal laws and government policies.
