District Office SA refutes news item published in local daily

The District Office, South Andaman has refuted the news item published in a Hindi daily yesterday. In a press release received here today, the Assistant Commissioner (HQ), SA has clarified that infact, a news item had appeared in the said daily that the officials and staff of District Administration are helping the traders registered under Central Sales Tax registration being dealt in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, SA to mint money and in turn obtaining commission by way of non-verification of the products actually arrived at Port Blair.
The Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman has in-fact called upon the Editor of the Hindi newspaper on 05th March 2016 and had a brief discussion of about 10 minutes and requested the media person to provide the details, if any, as alleged in the paper in order to take necessary action. The
Editor agreed to provide the details, but in turn, he has taken the opportunity to malign the image of the Administration by levelling a false allegation that the Administration is pressuring the Editor.
The Assistant Commissioner mentions that perhaps not sanctioning of loan under PMEGP Scheme is the grudge of the Editor, which was refused by SBI.
The release further adds that DCSA has, as a matter of fact, explained the Editor of the said Hindi daily that there are near about 1100 dealers registered under CST Act with the District Office, South Andaman and requested the Editor to provide specific input else it will be time consuming to check record of each and every firm. The Editor was also explained about the procedure followed for issuance of "C" forms to the registered firms. The dealer has to submit the quarterly returns within 30 days at the end of quarter with a statement showing invoice wise purchases made for that quarter along with information about Octroi receipt, date, bill of lading date and shippers/C&F agent details to the office of the Registering Authority. The same is verified by the officials of the District Administration from the original documents and after being satisfied and confirming the genuineness of the transaction from these documents, "C" forms are issued.
The Assistant Commissioner, terming the news item to be baseless and false allegation to malign the image of the District Administration, has further requested all media persons not to publish false news item. Publishing of such news item
without verification of facts in media is inappropriate and demoralizes the integrity of honest government servants, the release added.
