Improvement of data connectivity / broadband Augmentation of satellite connectivity to remote Islands on top priority: CGM

 The CGM, A&N Telecom Circle, Shri R.N. Jha today shared the overall performance of A&N Telecom Circle for the Financial Year 2015-16 with the media. During a press conference here this evening, the CGM said that the performance of the Circle in the last one year has been quite satisfactory in terms of improvement of quality of services, financial parameters and also in terms of implementation of developmental activities, particularly satellite bandwidth augmentation to 1 Gbps. 
  The CGM mentioned that the BSNL, A&N Telecom Circle had already achieved satellite bandwidth connectivity of 890 Mbps by 10th march 2016 and implementation of additional 160 Mbps is at advanced stage of completion. So, on the whole, he said, the BSNL has achieved its target of augmentation of satellite bandwidth of 1 Gbps by March 2016 and he conveyed his sincere thanks to all the officers of BSNL, particularly Eastern Telecom Project and its officers for the timely completion of the most desired connectivities of 1 Gbps. 
  He further, said that the new satellite bandwidths are all state-of-the-art IP based technology and its performance has been ranked excellent for the purpose of data communication. He also informed the media that the direct IP based satellite bandwidth connectivity with Kolkata for the improvement of Internet services in Havelock has also been implemented and commissioned on 17th March 2016 before the target date of 31st March 2016 as announced on 2nd Jan 2016 by Hon'ble MoC & IT during his visit to A&N Islands. 
  He also mentioned that tripartite MoU for the execution of Tsunami Early Warning System has already been executed between INCOIS (Indian National Centre for Ocean Information and Services), A & N Administration and BSNL. Mr Jha said that the warning system will work as an emergency communication system and also like a Mass Notification System (MNS) to dissipate emergency information to everyone with the objective to help, prevent injuries and save lives during the natural calamities in the remote Islands which are more vulnerable areas. He said the right information, to the right people at the right time could be transmitted effectively using this Tsunami Early Warning System. He conveyed happiness that BSNL is a partner for implementation of such a noble life saving initiative of the Government being implemented in A&N Islands for the first time in India. 
  The CGM also shared with the media that A&N Telecom Circle rank high in terms of revenue per month per BTS, revenue per month per broadband user and also in terms of collection efficiency. The work for augmentation of satellite connectivity to remote Islands for the improvement of data connectivity / broadband is on the top priority of BSNL agenda and shall be achieved progressively by June 2016 as announced by Hon'ble MoC & IT on 2nd Jan 2016.
